Louis Ruffin

Louis Ruffin, 94, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, died Sunday, March 4, 2012.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gertrude Geddes Willis-Terrebonne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Ruffin of Bronx, N.Y., Roger Ruffin of Houma, Charles Ruffin and wife, Eva Julius Ruffin and wife, Lois, of Houma; daughters, Lorraine Ruffin, Carolyn Patterson and husband, Junius, Annette Ruffin of Houma; sister, Sarah Chapman of Houma; and 20 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Picola Lyons Ruffin; his parents, Eddie and Mary Allen Ruffin; son, Carl A. Ruffin; brothers, Lloyd, Freddie, James, Allen, Willie, and Luster Ruffin; sisters, Mildred Daniels, Ora Danaway, Ouida Bell Ruffin, Gertie Ruffin and Cecille Ruffin; and grandparents, Riley and Margaret Rollins Ruffin.

He was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church, Deacon Emeritus and former choir member and church secretary. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Men Day Assoc. (Chaplain); Stone Square Lodge 239 (Past Worshipful Master); Sunflower Chapter 205 order of Eastern Star (Past Patron); United Veterans League (Chaplain); American Legion Post 31 (Chaplain); Veterans of Foreign Wars (Chaplain); and Disabled Veterans (DAV). He was a retired employee with the Terrebonne Parish Government.

Gertrude Geddes Willis-Terrebonne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
